The Southwest Human Resource Agency Head Start Program

is:

  • 3-Star rated by Tennessee DHS Licensing Standards
  • a federally funded child development quality program
  • an advocate for Southwest Tennessee families and children
  • an agency within the local community to promote solutions to local problems
  • a resource for tomorrow’s children

Serves:

  • low income children, three and four years of age and their families; 10% of the total enrollment is available for children with disabilities

Provides:

  • services in preschool education with a focus on social, physical, language, and cognitive development
  • parent involvement in policy decision making in a program operation and through parenting education and employment opportunities
  • health care through coordinating the delivery of comprehensive physical, mental, and dental care, nutrition education, and meal services
  • advocacy for Head Start families, counseling, referrals, and assisting families in becoming aware of community resources to improve the condition and quality of family life

Employs:

  • a variety of professionally trained personnel in fields such as:
    • administration and supervision
    • social word and social services
    • early childhood instruction including Child Development Associates (CDA) with national teaching credentials and experienced caregivers of young children
    • health care including nurses
    • parent educators
    • food service personnel
    • and many others committed to providing quality family support and services
  • a large percentage of the staff are former Head Start parents
